Brendon Lavender came to Tucson in 2008, just as Lute Olson made his retirement official. Another in-state product (from Mesa Mountain View), he found a niche as a reserve three-point specialist. Although he was called the best shooter on the team in practices by Coach Miller, he often struggled to reproduce those results come game-time, leading to speculation that confidence was a major issue holding him back.

Brendon Lavender starred at Mesa's Mountain View High School and followed a long line of Phoenix-area stars that chose to head south to Tucson. As a 3-star recruit, he was ranked as the #25 shooting guard recruit nationwide by ESPN. He won two class 5A state titles during his high school career and led the team to a 21-10 record as a senior where he averaged 22.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game. His performance earned him a first team all-state selection by the Arizona Republic. Brendon signed with Arizona during the November early signing period.
Freshman Year
During his freshman year, Brendon played sparingly as he competed with fellow underclassmen guards
Kyle Fogg, Garland Judkins, and Zane Johnson for the relatively few minutes that were available. Overall he saw action in 28 games, recording a season high 15 minutes and scoring a season-high 5 points on December 2nd, 2008 vs Loyola Marymount.
Sophomore Year
His sophomore year saw a time of great change in the program as Coach Sean Miller arrived on campus. With this change brought opportunity that Brendon was able to take advantage of. From that start Miller was publicly complimentary to Lavender, calling him the best shooter on the team. He earned a spot in the starting lineup for the first handful of games in the season before it was reclaimed by Kyle Fogg. He broke out for a career high 16 points in the Maui Invitational on November 24th, 2009 vs Colorado.
After being moved to the bench, he assumed the role of designated shooter, expected to hop off the bench and begin launching from the 3-point line. He did this with mixed results, ending the season with a middling 34.8% percentage from deep. He was able to be a factor in a couple of conference games, shooting 3/3 from 3 on February 4th, 2010 at Washington and 4/5 from 3 on February 25th, 2010 at California.
