As PGU reported yesterday, Sidiki Johnson is leaving the Arizona Men’s Basketball team with the intention to transfer. Sean Miller announced to the media on Sunday that Johnson would in fact not be returning after his indefinite suspension.
Johnson was the first player to commit in the Wildcats’ heralded 2011 recruiting class. The 6’8 power forward from the Bronx, NY committed to Arizona in August of 2009, in Sean Miller’s first year in Tucson.
Rumored to be having a hard time adjusting to the college game, Johnson did not have an ideal first semester. After he was suspended earlier in the season, Miller was not optimistic about his return. And with the Wildcats bringing in a trio of talented post players next year, Johnson’s future in the rotation was uncertain.
It is not yet clear where Johnson intends to transfer, but many assume it will be somewhere closer to his New York home. Johnson chose Arizona over Kentucky, Providence, Virginia Tech, and St. John’s among others.
