It’s been 4 weeks since 2015 Arizona commit Ray Smith had surgery to repair his torn ACL. Smith is currently rehabbing at S.P.O.R.T.S (Scott Pensivy Orthopedic Rehabilitation Therapy Services) in Las Vegas.
Smith is about two weeks ahead of schedule and is already jogging backwards. Arizona assistant coach Damon Stoudamire has been keeping a close eye on Ray’s progress and stays in constant contact with Ray and his father.
Stoudamire is one of the many reasons Ray committed to Arizona. And the relationship has only become stronger over the last month. You find out who your friends are in situations like this. And Damon is definitely a friend to the Smith’s.
Smith also keeps in touch with his friend and future teammate Justin Simon. The two would love to catch a football game in Tucson this fall. If that doesn’t happen they will both be at the Red/Blue game along with Arizona commit Allonzo Trier.
Smith hopes to get back on the court by the end of his senior year. If he stays ahead of pace on rehab then it’s a definite possibility. If not, the next time we see him play could be in an Arizona Wildcat uniform. It’s anyone’s guess at this point.
However, the rehab is going exceptional and Smith should come back even stronger. He’s grateful for all the fan support and that was another reason he chose Arizona.
“When I released my list of schools I loved the four day twitter battle between U of A and ASU fans. That was something I had to be a part of,” said Smith.
And speaking of ASU, check out this tweet from Smith.
