Point Guard U recently spoke with Class of 2015 Oakland Soldiers teammates Ivan Rabb and Stephen Zimmerman.

Rabb and Zimmerman are both ranked as top 5 recruits by all the major outlets. Arizona has shown heavy interest in both of these elite big men.

Zimmerman, the newest Oakland Soldiers member, has continued to shine on both ends of the floor and is impressing scouts with his ability to dominate the paint. He is a hard-nosed defender that contests every shot, battles for every rebound and finishes with authority around the rim.

On what he thinks he’s improved on the most this year

Stephen Zimmerman: “I’ve improved on my mid-range jumper the most this year.”

On his recruitment

SZ: “There are about 10-15 schools that are in touch with me right now.”

On playing for the Soldiers

SZ: “It’s fun. Rabb and I dominate the paint, block shots and get it out to our guards so they can get in transition and do work. I like playing AAU ball more than High School ball because it’s a lot more free and less structured.”

Goals for his next HS season

SZ: “I just want to win as many games as possible and get prepared for the next level. I want to enjoy my time here and just have fun and win another championship.”

Rabb has continued to impress as well. He has a tremendous skill-set that translates extremely well to the next level. His size, defensive prowess, lateral quickness and polished post moves contribute to why he is so highly sought after by almost every school in the country. He has one of the quickest second jumps you’ll see in the high school game.

NBA scouts are drooling over his potential and it’s quite obvious that he projects to be a one and done type of talent with his unique skill-set.

On his HS season

Ivan Rabb: “The coaches have really stayed on me and kept me motivated and focused. I feel like they’ve prepared me well for the next level. I just want to win a lot of games and enjoy my senior season.”

On playing for the Soldiers

IR: “Playing with Zimm is a lot of fun. It’s a scary frontline that blocks everything and we have quick guards that get out in transition and make things happen. It’s a great team.”

On what he needs to improve

IR: “My main focus this offseason will be on getting stronger.”
