Arizona is once again participating in the Maui Invitational, which combines the nation’s top teams for three days of basketball on the tropical island of Maui. The bracket was revealed today, pitting the Wildcats against the Missouri Tigers in the first round.

Winners of the Maui Invitational in 1989, Missouri welcomes new head coach Kim Anderson to lead a young group that includes sophomore Torren Jones from Chandler, Arizona. Arizona and Missouri have met just two times previously, with the last encounter in 1994 when the Wildcats defeated the Tigers in the Elite 8.

The two teams will be getting better acquainted however, as they also have a home and home series for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

Arizona could advance to play the winner of Kansas State vs Purdue, with San Diego State, Pittsburgh, and BYU on the other side of the bracket.

McKale Center will also play host to an opening game, in which California State University, Northridge will take on the Wildcats on Novermber 16th.

This will be Arizona’s sixth appearance in the Maui Invitational, tying North Carolina for the all time record. The Cats have advanced to the championship game three times, in 1993, 1997, and 2000.

We should be the clear favorite to win this tourney but I will definitely be anxious to see us perform in another big tourney on national TV.
Miller definitely timed it right heading back to Maui now that we have established ourselves back atop the college basketball world.
That 2009 appearance wasn’t the best one to remember but hey what do you expect with a new coach in his 1st year?
