PGU caught up with 2012 Arizona commit Gabe York to talk about national signing day. York, a 6’2 scoring guard from West Covina, California, is one of the best guard prospects out of his state and part of Arizona’s #1 2012 recruiting class.
York said that he was excited about signing day, but that he wasn’t going to make it a spectacle.
“I’m just going to do it in my coach’s office,” York told PGU, “I don’t know who’s going to be there but it’s going to be real small. It’ll be around 5pm on Wednesday.”
Still, becoming an official member of the Arizona Wildcats is something that means a lot to York.
“It’s awesome, I’m just really excited,” York said.”To make this step is a big stepping stone in my family, my brother was the first one to do it and I’m the second, so it’s a big deal in my family.”
York mentioned that his fellow 2012 classmates Grant Jerrett, Brandon Ashley, and Kaleb Tarczewski were also eager to sign their NLOI’s.
“I’ve talked to all three of them, it’s hard for Kaleb to stay in touch sometimes because he’s on the east coast but I talk to Grant and Brandon a lot. We’re all really good friends and we just talk about random things and how basketball is going. Everyone’s really excited about signing tomorrow. Coach said there’s a big thing happening when we all send the letters back, they’re going to have a press conference or something like that.”
While York was the second member of the 2012 class to commit, the coaching staff has still stayed in close contact with him.
“They just tell me that they’re happy to have me as a part of the Wildcat family and that we plan on doing big things,” York said. “They talk to us about how we’re the #1 recruiting class and that our goal is to win the national championship next year.”
