PGU was the only Arizona media in attendance for 2012 commit Brandon Ashley’s signing day. Both Ashley and AAU and Findlay Prep teammate Dominic Artis signed their NLOI’s today, with Artis officially becoming an Oregon Duck and Ashley officially becoming a Wildcat.
“It’s a huge day, it’s the start of my career as an Arizona Wildcat,” Ashley told PGU. “Honestly I’m a little speechless.”
Ashley, who was wearing an Oakland Soldiers sweatshirt, was happy to have his old AAU coach Mark Olivier there for his signing.
“I was so happy to have my mom and my coach here,” he said. “They’re the ones that helped me get here. Of course my mom has always been there and coach has been with me since the 7th or 8th grade. They’ve been there for me and supporting me the whole way.”
For Ashley, it’s been a long journey from a high upside underclassman to a bonafide national prep star.
“It’s been a huge journey coming from my freshman year, being 6’5 175 lbs,” he said. “I’ve grown a lot as a physically and as a person, to reach this point and finally become an Arizona Wildcat is huge.”
With signing day behind him, Ashley says that he has one collegiate goal after he finishes out his high school career at Findlay Prep.
“It’s all about getting that national championship,” Ashley said. “That’s the goal. We have the number one recruiting class in the country, and we have one of the best teams and coaches in the country. When we go to work at Arizona it’s going to be all about getting the National Championship for you guys.”
