Arizona Unravels WSU 86-59

Arizona scored 53 points in the first half in their 86-59 destruction of the Washington State Cougars. Sophomore Rondae Hollis-Jefferson was red hot, scoring 17 points on 8 of 9 shooting from the field. He also had a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Two other Wildcats scored 17 points, Kaleb Tarczewski and Brandon Ashley. Tarczweski was a perfect 6 of 6 from the field, while Ashley chipped in 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Arizona hit 36 of 63 shots, good for a sizzling 57%. On the defensive side the Wildcats were swarming and only allowed 8 of 30 (26%) shooting in the first half.

TJ McConnell had yet another impressive performance, scoring 14 points with 5 rebounds and 8 assists.

The starting lineup combined for 72 points, more than the entire Cougar squad. As a team the Wildcats forced 14 turnovers, which resulted in 15 points.

Arizona was dominant in the paint, scoring 46 points on the interior. The Wildcats never trailed in the game, and held the lead for over 38 minutes.

Gabe York had a productive game in 28 minutes off the bench, scoring 9 points with 6 rebounds on 3 of 6 shooting.

Arizona’s one flaw was the free throw line, where they converted just 10 of 20 attempts. They were also 4 of 14 from behind the three point line.

Next up for Arizona is a meeting with USC in Tucson.

    Hope he is not hurt? Left for locker room before end of game and did not return.

    Good to see us wrap up a road trip with a game like that. We were definitely firing on all cylinders in the first half and had a bit of a let down in the second but it’s not easy to play with all that intensity when you’re up that much. Great win and on to the next one!
