Wildcat fans didn’t have to wait long to find out their path in the NCAA Tournament, as Arizona was revealed as the 6th seed in the South region, the first one announced during the annual Selection Show.
The opponent for the Wildcats’ first game will be determined by the winner of the First Four play-in game between Vanderbilt and Wichita State.
Vanderbilt went 19-13 on the season and finished 3rd in the SEC. The commodores are led by Wade Baldwin IV, a sophomore guard who averages 14.3 points and 5.2 assists per game, both team highs.
Wichita State is a strong opponent to face as an 11 seed, guided by senior point guard Fred VanVleet. VanVleet is a steady ball handler who averages 5.7 assists to just 1.7 turnovers per game. Wichita State also defeated Utah earlier in the season 67-50.
Arizona will head to Providence, Rhode Island to take on the winner of the Vanderbilt versus Wichita State contest. The Wildcats open play on Thursday, March 17th.
