UA gets respect; now it must win

LOS ANGELES - University of Arizona football coach Mike Stoops treated the Wildcats' predicted finish of sixth like the rubber chicken he ate for lunch at Pac-10 media day: With a grain of salt.
The Wildcats' third-year coach wants to savor more victories and thinks the main ingredient is to win close games, something that has bogged down the program's progress.
"There have been situations we really hurt ourselves, especially late in games, or we could have had a really good season," Stoops said. "The frustrating part for me, is we have to quit beating ourselves. I hate beating ourselves. Until we do that, it is going to bother me."
