In his short time here, Sean Miller has made a huge impact on Arizona Basketball. He was quickly able to sign three recruits which are all ranked in the Top 150. Kevin Parrom was one player that Arizona fans were immediately excited about landing once Sean Miller was named Arizona Head Basketball Coach. Parrom is a 6’6 forward from South Kent High School and was recruited hard by Miller when he coached at Xavier. Miller being able to sway Parrom to come across country for college says a lot about the types of relationships Miller and his staff are able to build with his players.[coverattach=1]
“It’s a family setting when I'm around all the coaches. I just feel so comfortable. I feel like myself,” Parrom said about the coaching staff.
Kevin Parrom is not the first player from the East Coast that has been lured to Arizona. Khalid Reeves and Mustafa Shakur were from east of the Mississippi. Being so far from home, one would think it would be a very difficult decision to make to come to Arizona. When asked about the difficulty of his decision Parrom had this to say, “It wasn't hard at all. I just felt right at home when I went for my visit.”
Is the lure of playing for Arizona that great, or is Sean Miller a great recruiter? It is more than likely a little bit of both. Arizona was Solomon Hill’s dream destination, so one can say maybe it all comes to lay on Lute Olson’s lap still but not only did Sean Miller land Kevin Parrom, but he also landed another recruit in Kyryl Natyazhko who did not even have Arizona on his radar.
One of the major setbacks of Arizona Basketball the last few years has been team chemistry. The team will be young this year and must gel together as a unit quickly if they are hoping to accomplish things nobody expects them too. One thing is for certain, Arizona’s incoming freshman class has already built a bit of chemistry with each other. “I've gotten to meet those two (Kyryl and Solomon). They are so funny and they are very good athletes. I can't wait to play alongside both of them.”
This is definitely an exciting time for Arizona Basketball and we, as fans, cannot wait to see what the future has in store. We are all excited to see what the incoming freshman will bring to McKale Center and Parrom is ready to showcase it. “I think I can bring a lot to the table for Arizona Basketball. I will bring that New York style of play to the west coast.”
The future is definitely bright for our beloved program. It appears that Sean Miller has brought in the right kids with just the right attitudes and in less than four months on the job. It shows with Kevin Parrom taking time out of his undoubtedly busy day to sit down and answer just a few questions for us. Like the players from the past Kevin Parrom appears ready to embrace the tradition and the community that surrounds Arizona Basketball while, at the same time, introducing us to that New York swag.
