Arizona has landed a star 2016 recruit in forward TJ Leaf. A combo forward with a power forward lean, Leaf hails from El Cajon, California. As a cerebral, well-rounded player, Leaf is one of the top prospects in the 2016 class and will be a major part of the Wildcats’ future.
Among the reasons why he chose Arizona, Leaf named his relationship with the coaching staff as well as Arizona’s winning tradition.
“I love the coaches there,” said Leaf. “I love Coach Miller and Coach Pasternack and all the coaches there.”
Leaf’s play-making ability from the forward spot figures to be a central piece in Arizona’s future attack. As an intelligent, coachable player, he should be a perfect fit for Sean Miller’s style of play.
Leaf visited Arizona multiple times, and cited the campus and atmosphere as one of the school’s strongest selling points.
“Arizona has a whole lot of pieces. The facilities are great,” Leaf said. “It’s a really nice place and it’s close to home, which is a benefit as well. I felt like I got to see everything and I also got to see a practice, which was big for me to watch the coaches in their natural habitat.”
At 6-9, Leaf will give Arizona a boost of size but he is also a versatile and mobile athlete that will contribute in numerous phases of the game.
“In the 2015 class, they have pretty much one, two, three, five, so I feel like I could fit in with that really well,” said Leaf. “And even with their personnel now, I feel like I could come in with a lot of those guys most likely going into the draft, I could come in and become an impact player as a freshman.”
Leaf is the Wildcats’ first commitment in the class of 2016.
