A player that made a name for himself during the AAU summer circuit and turned some heads while doing so is 2016 6’4 combo guard Andrew Jones out of Irving, TX. The athletic guard landed more than a handful of big time offers, including one from Arizona. PGU caught up with Jones after his visit to campus.
“I spent most of the time with the coaches, all three of them (Miller, Pasternack and Phelps). They all seem cool and that they work hard,” Jones told PGU.
“They showed me film on how coach likes to run his offense and defense,” he added.
The staff compared Jones to Nick Johnson, athletically gifted enough to finish highlight reel dunks but another comparison is his innate ability to put the ball in the hoop, which has allowed him to grab colleges’ attention.
When PGU asked Jones if that is a comparison that he can see he replied with, “Yeah, I’ve watched them since Nick was a freshmen so I agree with that comparison.”
Jones was impressed by Arizona’s facilities, mentioning them as some of the best he’s seen.
“It was crazy. I didn’t know it was that big. The locker room was bigger than I thought it would be,” he said.
Jones also touched on some of the qualities he is looking for in a college.
“Being comfortable with the coaches, the style of play and the academics,” he said. Jones already has an area of study that he’s looking for as well. “I want to study business accounting.”
Now that he completed his unofficial visits Jones looks to narrow his list and set officials.
“I might start setting up those in a couple weeks,” he said.
